JCPenney parent company laying off 5% of corporate staff

PLANO, Texas — The parent company of North Texas-based JCPenney confirmed it’s laying off 5% of its corporate staff.

A spokesperson for Catalyst Brands, the company formed after Plano-based JCPenney recently merged with Sparc Group (which includes Aeropostale, Brooks Brothers, Eddie Bauer, Lucky Brand and Nautica), said 5% of their 5,000 corporate associates were impacted, or about 250 people.

“Catalyst Brands is in the early stages of our integration. After careful review of the entire organization, across all brands, we have identified areas where we can streamline our structure and eliminated about 5% of our corporate staff,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “While these decisions are never easy, they are essential for building a stronger, more competitive company. We appreciate the contributions of all affected associates and are committed to supporting them with transition resources, including severance and benefits.”…
