The gist: Lafayette has proven to be dangerous to get around, but the city is taking incremental steps to make Lafayette’s roadways safer.
The city is tackling specific problem areas, and the project getting the biggest push is Bertrand Drive, which plans to connect Cajun Field to Moncus Park for pedestrians. There are also plans to improve pedestrian hotspots at Carmel Drive and Congress Street, along with work on 12th and Surrey streets about to break ground.
