Two wrongfully convicted Lorain County men get millions in compensation from the state of Ohio

Two Lorain County men who were wrongfully convicted of crimes, including murder and child molestation, are receiving nearly $2 million each from the state as compensation.

The Ohio Controlling Board approved the payments to Joel Covender, who was released in 2007, and Michael Buehner, who was released in 2022, on Monday, according to board documents.

Covender, 56, formerly of Amherst, will get $2,150,000 from the state for being wrongfully imprisoned for 11 years. His attorney, W. Scott Ramsey, will receive just over $247,000 of that in fees, according to board documents and state law…
