MS-13 Gang Member Wanted For Homicide Detained In Iowa Traffic Stop

On February 21st, a routine traffic stop in Des Moines, Iowa resulted in the arrest of Luis Enrique Baires, a 28-year-old criminal alien from El Salvador. Baires was wanted for multiple serious offenses in his home country. The arrest was carried out through a collaborative effort between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Baires is facing multiple charges in El Salvador, including two counts of aggravated homicide, two counts of proposition and conspiracy for the crime of aggravated homicide, and one count of illicit associations with the MS-13, Enfermos Criminales Salvatruchos clique.

“Rural Iowa is not immune from central American criminals like Baires, and we will continue to face the challenge of tracking down and arresting the worst of the worst,” stated ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations St. Paul Field Office Director Matthew Putra. “Thanks to U.S. Marshals Service for assisting us in this arrest to keep communities safe.”…
