AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The panhandles will see a mix of beautiful weather and wild conditions over the next few days. Today was gorgeous, with sunny skies, highs around 70, and a light south breeze.
On Sunday, things start to get more interesting, a strong weather system moving in from the west could spark showers and thunderstorms, especially in the northeast panhandles. While most storms will be weak, a couple could become severe, bringing strong winds and hail.
Feb. to March weather
At the same time, strong winds out of the west-southwest will kick up, gusting to 40 mph. These winds, combined with very dry air, will create elevated to critical fire weather conditions, mainly in the south and western panhandles. Some areas could even see patchy blowing dust, making for reduced visibility at times.
Monday and Tuesday keep the fire weather concerns going, as another powerful system arrives from the northwest. The air will stay dry, and winds will stay strong with gusts over 40 mph possible Monday and even stronger gusts up to 60 mph by Tuesday, especially in the far northwest.
