McLean has a restored 1929 Route 66 gas station
For over 50 years this old Phillips 66 station was a popular spot for drivers to fill up since it opened in September 1929. After it was closed down, a Route 66 preservation group saved the place for falling into disarray in 1992. Today it’s a historic marker you can visit at 212 First St.
Decatur is home to a gas station made out of petrified wood
You wouldn’t think that it would be a good idea making a place that serves flammable liquid to be made out of wood, but this unique gas station opened up in 1927. It was even a place where Bonnie & Clyde stayed for a couple weeks in 1933.
The station closed in 1988 but it still stands today at 904 U.S. Hwy 287.
