Minneapolis Police Department’s quick response to a carjacking incident last week ended with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of stolen property. On their official Facebook page, MPD detailed how their officers managed to nab a pair of carjackers near 17th Street East and Chicago Ave.
The department credits the success to an automated license plate reader (ALPR), which allowed the officers to quickly identify a vehicle reported stolen at gunpoint. “Big shoutout to our incredible MPD officers for catching a pair of carjackers near 17th Street East and Chicago Ave!” the social media post exclaimed. While the passenger was detained at the scene, the driver attempted to evade arrest by fleeing on foot.
However, the flight was short-lived. Officers from three different precincts collaborated on a manhunt that culminated just blocks away in Franklin Steele Park, where the driver was apprehended. The MPD’s dedication to tracking down the suspects was evident in their post: “Thanks to a coordinated effort from officers across three precincts, the suspect was tracked down just blocks away in Franklin Steele Park.”…
