Dozens of Earthquakes Noted Around San Andreas in Past 7 Days

There have been around 27 2.5 magnitude or greater earthquakes along or near the San Andreas Fault in California within the last seven days, data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) shows.

The San Andreas Fault, extending roughly 800 miles through California, is a significant source of seismic concern due to its potential to produce large earthquakes.

The southern section of the fault has not experienced a major rupture since 1857, leading scientists to warn of the increasing likelihood of a substantial earthquake, often referred to as the “Big One.”

At around 10:13 p.m. local time Sunday, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck California approximately 10 miles northwest of Los Angeles, USGS reported.
