Florida lawmaker files bill to remove teachers, school employees accused of wrongdoing quicker

FLORIDA, USA — A Florida lawmaker is pushing to protect students by making sure teachers accused of wrongdoing are more promptly removed from the classroom.

State Sen. Clay Yarborough filed Senate Bill 1374 on Wednesday, Feb. 26 that would require school districts in the Sunshine State to adopt a policy to temporarily remove teachers from their classroom within 24 hours after being notified by police of their arrest. Yarborough looks to makes this change in Florida Statute 1012.22.

Furthermore, Yarborough wants to amend Florida Statute 1012.799. He aims to have teachers and “administrative personnel” self-report themselves to a “school district authority” within 48 hours of being arrested for a felony or misdemeanor…
