City: More than 80 open code violations in properties run by Syracuse Housing Authority

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The I-Team confirmed that there are a total of 88 open code violations in properties owned or managed by the Syracuse Housing Authority.

The Syracuse Deputy Commissioner of Code Enforcement & Zoning Administration Jake Dishaw said the number is relatively low compared to the at least 2,500 public housing units SHA is responsible for.

“Any building that has a property maintenance violation or any violation is something that I want to cure,” said Dishaw. He said there are minor issues, but some that are more serious, such as, “Elevators not functioning properly or hot water. There are some that impact more than just an individual dwelling unit or a couple of individual dwelling units.”…
