Ithaca man pleads guilty to assaulting Investigator Theetge

ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — An Ithaca man who was involved in the March 2024 shoplifting and assault incident that left a member of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office severely injured has been convicted.

Dominick J. Haley pleaded guilty to assault on a police officer (a class C felony), second-degree assault (a class D felony), and petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor), according to the Chemung County District Attorney’s Office. Haley faces a minimum of 3.5 years and a maximum of 15 years in prison, and he is scheduled to be sentenced on April 14.

Haley was arrested on these charges on March 29, 2024, after an incident in Big Flats . Haley attempted to leave Target without paying and was stopped by the store’s loss prevention department.
