When the trees came down on her house, Jacqueline Blakes was in the tub.
Tuesday’s storm was short but powerful, and in north Shreveport it spawned a tornado near Blakes’ home. When the wind started blowing, she got in a safe spot.
“My husband had called a few minutes before and he said ‘Honey, it is a tornado warning. It’s not a watch,'” Blakes said. “Probably about 10-15 minutes after I got the call from him, I heard the wind start to pick up. I started to hear debris hitting the house, and that scared me because I was sitting by this window on the couch. The wind started to pick up more and I was hearing stuff hitting the house, so I went and got in the tub. A few minutes after that, I heard a big boom.”
Two trees in her front yard came down. They smashed the carport, damaged her home’s roof and crushed the Mercedes…
