Aurora Health Care on Tuesday announced a nearly $50 million effort to turn the former Wisconsin Avenue School into a health and wellness center on the near west side of Milwaukee.
“The Beacon,” located at the intersection of 27th Street and Wisconsin Avenue, is a proposed, mixed-use project that will have access to programs such as prenatal and postnatal virtual care, violence prevention, eviction support, housing assistance, early childhood education programming and more, Aurora officials said.
The Wisconsin Avenue School closed in 2007. In 2015, Milwaukee Public Schools declared the building a surplus and moved it to the Department of City Development for sale, OnMilwaukee reported.
