Petaluma man and kid on probation arrested in San Rafael on drug and burglary-related charges

K-9 UNIT NETS A GUN, DRUGS, BURGLARY TOOLS, AND STOLEN PROPERTY:

Last night, around 8:00 PM, SRPD’s K-9 unit made a traffic stop for a traffic violation. As the suspect vehicle came to a stop in the area of Second Street and Irwin Street in Downtown San Rafael, a suspect passenger immediately fled from the vehicle with a bag. Additional officers responded to the scene to assist with capturing the fleeing passenger.

While officers were looking for the passenger, our K-9 officer continued investigating the circumstances with the vehicle and why the passenger decided to run. During the investigation, K-9 Tango was alerted to the presence of illegal drugs in the car. Officers detained the driver, an 18-year-old male from Petaluma, and searched the vehicle. Officers located narcotics, burglary tools, and stolen property belonging to 16 different victims.
