The Ole Miss men’s basketball team made history on Wednesday after their upset victory against Tennessee. Not only did the team knock off the No. 4 ranked program in the country, but it was the second time this season that Chris Beard’s team has beaten a top-five opponent.
Such a triumphant victory warrants a celebration, especially on Senior Night, and the fans at the SJB Pavilion did exactly that by storming the court following the win. The SEC announced on Friday , however, that the Ole Miss athletic program would be fined for their failure to prevent the court storming on Wednesday evening.
The conference fined the program $500 thousand for a violation of their access to competition area policy. Colleges have been cracking down on fans who enter the competition area after a victory for fear of a hefty fine, but Ole Miss’ efforts were futile after the big win on Wednesday.
Chris Beard and his team have been a bit inconsistent this season, but their victory over No. 4 Tennessee proves once again that they have the talent to beat anybody in the country. They’ll play No. 5 Florida to finish the regular season before beginning SEC Tournament play next week…
