St. Louis police shoot fleeing driver after crash amid traffic stop

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police shot a man Saturday morning during an attempted arrest. Officers found him hiding in a yard after he crashed the car he was driving and ran during a chase, a spokesperson with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the statement, officers with SLMPD’s Fifth District received an alert that a car wanted for felony stealing in Richmond Heights was in the area around 1:10 a.m., according to a license plate reader.

“Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Page & Walton; however, the vehicle fled,” the police spokesperson wrote. “Officers continued following the vehicle which ultimately crashed in the rear alley of the 5000 block of Kingshighway.”…
