Officials introduce legislation to update Ohio’s Homestead Exemption Law

State Reps. Daniel Troy, D-Willowick, and Thomas Hall, R-Madison Township (Butler County), recently introduced House Bill 103 to update Ohio’s Homestead Tax Exemption Program.

The homestead exemption, which lowers property taxes for lower-income Ohioans aged 65 and older, was first approved by Ohio voters through a constitutional amendment in 1970.

Troy noted that in 2007, the General Assembly temporarily expanded the program to include “all homeowners who are either 65 years old or permanently and totally disabled,” regardless of income.
