Energy costs hearing set for Monday

WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — The Public Utilities Commission has a hearing scheduled for 6:00 pm on Monday on the subject of Rhode island Energy’s utility rates.

Those rates have been on NBC 10 viewers minds, with many of you reaching out to our station, voicing concerns about high energy bills in recent months.

According to State Representative Megan Cotter, right now energy prices are one of the biggest concerns for her constituents. Cotter said she has a message for the PUC. It’s, “to do their jobs and protect the ratepayers. That’s what the PUC is there for. They’re not there to just continuously rubber stamp high rate increases.”

In a statement to NBC 10, Rhode Island Energy says in part, “Though we make no profit on these supply prices and have no control over them, we hope this is an opportunity for customers to learn more about what is driving supply prices.”…
