Plans for multi-unit housing put on hold

MARINETTE — Milwaukee based developer T. Spell Development Group, LLC, has put on hold plans to build a 40-unit affordable housing complex, as rezoning could not be completed before a late March deadline. Discussion about the purchase of two city lots near the intersection of Division Street and Oakes Street began in November.

It is assumed that during this time the developer will re-evaluate the viability of the location, before another Wisconsin Economic Development Association application deadline in December.

Back in November the council gave the developer the go ahead to move forward with his plans to purchase the lots but said that was not to be misconstrued as the city accepting an offer to purchase. During that meeting, Mayor Steve Genisot said that public input, zoning and other permitting processes would have to take place before the city would approve the development…
