South Carolina suspends electric vehicle charging program — what’s next

South Carolina ranks in the middle of the pack in the U.S. when it comes to electric vehicle charging infrastructure. It doesn’t look like its standing will improve anytime soon.

The state has suspended its electric vehicle charging program after President Donald Trump in January issued an executive order pausing funding the disbursement of federal funding the Biden Administration had earmarked for EV charging infrastructure under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program, also known as NEVI.

“SCDOT has paused any further activity on the NEVI Formula Program in accordance with President Trump’s recent executive order. We will await further guidance from the Federal Highway Administration,” Hannah Robinson, media relations manager for South Carolina Department of Transportation, said…
