40-year-old Minnesota man sentenced for planning to distribute meth in SD

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — A Minnesota man is headed to prison for his roll in a plan to sell meth South Dakota.

40-year old Francisco Javier Mendez was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison.

In June of 2023, authorities found 3 pounds of meth on Mendez during a traffic stop in Nebraska.

Mendez was indicted for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person by a federal grand jury in June 2024. He pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance on November 22, 2024. He later told law enforcement he and the driver had bought the drugs in Kansas and were returning to South Dakota to sell it on the reservations…
