PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregonians ages 65 and older, and those who are immunocompromised, are now eligible to receive an additional dose of the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine. This dose, recommended to be administered six months after the initial vaccination, can be given as soon as two months following the first dose for added flexibility.
Dr. Paul Cieslak, medical director for communicable diseases and immunizations at the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), emphasized the importance of the booster dose for older adults and those with compromised immune systems. “Immunity from vaccines can wane over time, but getting a second dose can bring that protection back,” Cieslak said. “That’s why we encourage anyone 65 and older, or those moderately to severely immunocompromised, to talk to a health care provider about getting a second dose.”…
