Family files $50M claim against San Diego after woman’s body found in impounded van

SAN DIEGO — The family of a 65-year-old woman who was found dead inside her vehicle at an impound lot has filed a $50 million claim against the City of San Diego.

Monica Cameroni De Adams was sleeping in her parked van in Clairemont when a drunk driver hit her vehicle. Her body wasn’t discovered until a month later when a towing company employee noticed a foul smell coming from the van. “The last place you would think to look for a missing person was inside of a car,” said John Carpenter, the attorney representing the victim’s family.

According to Carpenter, the body was found in December 2023 at a tow yard lot in Grantville, more than a month after the collision. “A worker at the tow yard reported a pungent smell coming from the car, and that turned out to be Monica,” Carpenter explained…
