NIXA, Mo. (KY3) – More than 200 measles cases have been reported across a dozen states, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, with the majority in Texas and New Mexico, and most of them from children who are not vaccinated against the virus.
Though the CDC doesn’t show any currently reported in Missouri or Arkansas, some area pharmacists tell KY3 News they’ve seen an increase in people asking about getting vaccinated.
“It’s not terribly expensive. It probably would be covered by your insurance, but in the world of pharmacy, there’s only about five or six that we’re allowed to do, just like on a walk-in basis,” said Tom Mengwasser, staff pharmacist at Alps Pharmacy in Nixa. “Generally those pediatric type ones are handled more by the doctors and the nurses because there’s a more controlled setting.”…
