Prisma Health Family YMCA breaks ground on expansion in Simpsonville

The YMCA of Greenville recently kicked off a multi-phase facility expansion at the Prisma Health Family YMCA in Simpsonville.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held March 11 to celebrate the project, which responds to the exponential growth occurring in southern Greenville County. The 80,000-square-foot Prisma Health Family YMCA campus at 550 Brookwood Point Place currently serves more than 14,900 members.

“The Prisma Health Family YMCA branch campus expansion project will allow us to serve even more members and children and will result in a stronger YMCA that has the resources necessary to carry out our time-honored mission to provide a place for all people to build healthy spirit, mind and body,” said Sam Franklin, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville.

The project’s initial phase will add 14,500 square feet to the campus. This addition will include a new gymnasium for the YMCA’s after school, summer day camp and youth sports programs. Kenny Johnson, operations director at the Prisma Health Family YMCA, said this will help address the growing need for youth development programming.

“This expansion will also allow our child care programs that are currently being held offsite at Life Spring Community Church and Adams Mill Sports Fields to return back on site at the Prisma Health Family YMCA,” Johnson said.

Three classrooms, each 900 square feet, will be added for Youth Development programming. In addition, a dedicated drop-off and pick-up circle will be constructed on-site. The expansion will also include two offices, a conference room, restrooms and a pantry for staff…
