Capogna’s Dugout in Clearwater makes a comeback

CLEARWATER — Many Pinellas County restaurants were forced to close after suffering heavy damage during the fall hurricanes, but some well-known establishments have recently reopened. Those include Ricky T’s and Caddy’s in Treasure Island, and Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill and the Palm Pavilion in Clearwater Beach.

Now, we can add Capogna’s Dugout to that list. The popular Italian restaurant at 1653 Gulf to Bay Blvd. recently reopened after closing in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

“People were saying it was like a death in the family,” said Stefani DiMaio, one of four siblings who run Capogna’s these days.

The restaurant was founded by their father, Art Capogna, in 1973…
