Ohio residents could lose out on an estimated $34.7 million in unclaimed tax refunds from the 2021 tax year if they don’t act fast, according to the IRS. Across the state, approximately 39,400 individuals failed to file their Form 1040 Federal Income Tax Return for taxes due in April 2022.
The median potential refund in Ohio is $762, slightly below the national median of $781. Some states, like Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, have even higher median refunds exceeding $900.
If no action is taken, these refunds—totaling around $1 billion nationwide—will become the property of the U.S. Treasury. (Source: IRS)
