Northwest Governments Declare War on Woodstoves

Today, in the Northwest, the very governments meant to serve citizens have declared war on the woodstove.

Citizens want the option of a fireplace—something that burns wood. And if you think about it, wood is renewable and sustainable, as liberals like to say. Yet, the government has spent millions trying to shut down every wood-burning source in the region.

Multnomah County’s director of sustainability, John Wasiutynski, says, “We can’t have clean air if we have wood burning.” His agency spent a million dollars offering heat pumps to those willing to give up their fireplaces. Some people took the deal. Yet, DEQ surveys show more people using wood heat than just five years ago. It’s easy to see why…electric rates have skyrocketed…
