High wind gust situation shaping up, possible tree-toppler gusts

A strong storm system is going to bring a period of stiff wind gusts. One section of the Lake Michigan shoreline may have higher-end gusts nearing 60 mph.

This windy period doesn’t appear to be anything historical. Most of us in Michigan will have an hour or two of gusts between 45 mph and 50 mph.

But there are two things to note with this wind coming up Friday night and Saturday. Firstly, the Lake Michigan shoreline will have the strongest gusts since the wind will be blowing from the southwest and west. Wind over water encounters less friction than traveling over earth. In this case the very strongest gusts will probably occur from Pentwater to Ludington to Manistee to Leelanau County. Those locations could encounter a few gusts as high as 55 mph to 60 mph…
