TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. (WFLA) — The beach at Treasure Island is ready for spring break. However, many of the hotels, bars, restaurants and shops are still in disarray from recent hurricanes.
Jason Beisel with the City of Treasure Island says the entire island was under 10 feet of storm surge. Every building sustained damage. “The recovery process takes time, it could be a couple years,” he explains, “is there as much to do as there was before the storms, not exactly.”
According to Beisel, there are fewer places for visitors to stay. Short term rentals were washed away during the storm and some hotels, including the Thunderbird won’t be open in time for the busy season…
