Teen officially charged after explosive device found in backpack at Ponderosa High School

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — A 15-year-old boy has been officially charged after an explosive device found in his backpack prompted an evacuation of Ponderosa High School on March 4.

The teen has been charged with:

  • Attempted murder after deliberation
  • Attempted first-degree assault with extreme indifference
  • Manufacture of explosive or incendiary device
  • Possession of explosive or incendiary device
  • Interference with school – credible threat

He also has two sentence enhancers that include an aggravated juvenile offender and a violent juvenile offender.

Just before 9:30 a.m. March 4, a school resource officer was notified through Safe2Tell that a student had “possibly brought a device to school,” located at 7007 Bayou Gulch Road, according to a social media post by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office…
