Saturday has been declared a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire Pine Belt under a Level 4 Threat for severe weather.
WHAT IS NEW: Models continue to indicate a potent set-up for severe weather. High-res models show widespread supercells forming Saturday morning and afternoon across south Mississippi, indicating a higher tornado threat.
WHAT TO EXPECT: A significant severe weather outbreak is expected Saturday across Mississippi and Alabama. Saturday’s atmosphere will be extremely unstable and primed for action! Very High wind shear values combined with peak daytime heating will foster an environment that will be favorable for strong, long-tracked tornadoes ALL DAY Saturday.
Supercell thunderstorms will fire up across southwestern Mississippi late Saturday morning. Those supercells will then move into the Pine Belt around lunchtime and linger through the afternoon hours. The greatest risk for strong, long-tracked tornadoes will be across central and southern Mississippi & western Alabama.
MAIN THREATS (in order of concern):
- – Strong Tornadoes
- – 70+ mph Winds
- – Tennis Ball Size Hail
TIMING:
- – 10am – 8pm Saturday
