Nevada pediatricians urge measles vaccinations as cases rise across the US

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Pediatricians at Renown Children’s Hospital are urging parents to vaccinate their children against measles amid a rise in cases across the United States.

As of March 6, 222 measles cases have been reported in 12 jurisdictions, including Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington.

Dr. Kristina Deeter, chair of Pediatrics for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, emphasized the importance of immunization. “As a pediatrician, a mom, chair of Pediatrics for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and Physician-in-Chief for Renown Children’s Hospital, I want to remind everyone that immunization is safe and the best protection for you and your children against measles and other potentially deadly diseases,” she said. “We now have confirmation that measles cases are increasing across the country and the world. This is a preventable disease. We must act now to protect our children and community.”…
