Cayce schools reopen after ‘secure status’ as police searched area for fleeing suspect

CAYCE, S.C. — Officials say an increased security mode at multiple Cayce area schools has been lifted after police caught a suspect at midday on Friday.

A spokesperson for the city of Cayce said Busbee Middle and Cayce Elementary schools, along with the Innovation Center, were placed on “secure status” during classes as Cayce Police searched for a suspect who they said was trespassing somewhere in the area and escaped on foot after failing to obey police commands.

Officials said the schools were placed in secure status, and parents were notified as the search was underway. The suspect was caught after about an hour and a half, allowing the schools to lift the security measure…
