An Update on Saturday’s Severe Thunderstorm Potential

A strong low pressure system will impact the region this weekend, bringing gusty wind and a low-end potential of severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening. Straight-line damaging wind will be the main hazard.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has the vast majority of Ohio painted in a Level 2 (Slight Risk) of severe thunderstorms on Saturday, with the primary threat coming from the potential for damaging straight-line wind gusts. [EDIT: As of the Friday afternoon SPC update the risk level has been downgraded to a Level 1 Marginal Risk as shown below. The risk of tornadoes and hail was also removed in our area with the afternoon update.]

Heavy rainfall is also a possibility in any of the stronger thunderstorms.

The timing for our area remains from the mid-afternoon through the evening hours. There can be a noisy thunderstorm Saturday morning around sunrise but these are expected to be non-severe…
