The Storm Prediction Center has shifted the widespread severe weather threat just a little to the northeast. This puts the very southwest corner of Lower Michigan in the chance of damaging wind gusts and even a strong tornado.
Here is the latest severe weather forecast as of 8:30 a.m. today. We will get several updates today. It’s easy to see a dangerous widespread severe thunderstorm outbreak is expected just southwest of Michigan. But also notice the level two risk has now been placed in far southwest Michigan. Also notice the black hatch shaded areas. The Storm Prediction Center gives us that marking when gusts over 75 mph are possible or strong tornadoes.
A line of very severe thunderstorms is expected to develop in Missouri and Illinois late this afternoon. The line of storms will move northeast this evening and not enter southwest Michigan until the middle of the night tonight. This late night arrival could help weaken the thunderstorms as they move into Michigan.
