Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee sued by another former client over settlement funds

Jose Bermudez claims he was charged more than $17,500 in interest by Buzbee’s law firm and ended up receiving less than $190,000 out of a $700,000 settlement. He is the fourth former client to sue Buzbee for similar allegations.

Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee is being sued by a former client who claims Buzbee and his law firm misappropriated settlement money, distributing it to the client in the form of a loan with an exorbitant interest rate.

According to the lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Harris County, plaintiff Jose Bermudez was injured while working as a seaman in January 2020. Bermudez subsequently hired Buzbee and his law firm to represent him in an injury lawsuit against his then-employer Callan Marine, claiming the employer was responsible for the injuries.
