Iftar event planned by city council members canceled after city leaders say its unconstitutional

MINNEAPOLIS — A Ramadan-related event planned by several Minneapolis city council members has been canceled after city leaders said hosting such an event in the public service building would have been unconstitutional.

A spokesperson with the city of Minneapolis said Thursday afternoon that the city “celebrates the diversity of its elected officials, staff members and residents. However, the City must comply with the United States and Minnesota constitutions.”
