USGS says earthquake in California’s Salton Sea did not occur

( FOX 5/KUSI ) — The U.S. Geological Survey said a 4.6 magnitude earthquake in California’s Salton Sea did not happen on Friday morning.

The agency’s website in the morning reported that the quake happened at a depth of about 5 miles under the Salton Sea.

Later in the day, the web page for that specific quake detailed that “The requested event has been deleted,” and that “The posting was a result of an errant message sent during system testing.”
