Idaho Killings 911 Call Released

Additional Coverage:

A chilling 911 call has been released, documenting the moment University of Idaho students discovered a friend unconscious, a prelude to a quadruple homicide that gripped the nation.

In the call, a distraught woman tells the dispatcher, “Something has happened in our house, and we don’t know what.” Another woman then takes the phone, explaining that a roommate is unresponsive after a night of drinking. In a haunting aside, she adds, “Oh, and they saw some man in their house last night.”

Bryan Kohberger stands accused of fatally stabbing Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Xana Kernodle in the early morning hours of November 13, 2022, at the women’s off-campus residence in Moscow, Idaho. Chapin, Kernodle’s boyfriend, was visiting at the time.

Two roommates survived the attack. One reported seeing a masked man dressed in black inside the home, according to court documents.

She described him as being at least 5-foot-10, “not very muscular, but athletically built with bushy eyebrows,” and noted that he walked toward the sliding glass door. She did not recognize him.

The released 911 recording captures panicked breathing before a caller cries out, “She’s passed out — what’s wrong?” and then, “She’s not waking up.”

The call continues with the woman’s distressed cries. A man then speaks with the dispatcher, confirming the victim is not breathing.

While authorities believe the murders occurred between 4 a.m. and 4:25 a.m., the 911 call wasn’t placed until 11:58 a.m. Court documents reveal that the surviving roommates tried contacting the victims via calls and texts between 4:19 a.m. and 4:32 a.m., receiving no response. Further attempts were made to reach Goncalves and Mogen at 10:23 a.m., and a call was placed to someone outside the house at 11:50 a.m., just minutes before contacting 911.

Kohberger, a criminology Ph.D. student at Washington State University at the time of the killings, was arrested in December 2022. He faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. He has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is scheduled for August.
