WASHINGTON — After pleading guilty to an attempted bombing outside the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C., a Florida attorney was sentenced on Friday to 8 years and 6 months in federal prison, according to the U.S. attorney for D.C.’s office.
Christopher Rodriguez, 45, pleaded guilty in August 2024 to charges related to damaging federal government property and possession of unregistered explosives for leaving a backpack full of explosives outside the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China on Van Ness Street Northwest.
The Panama City, Fla. man also pleaded guilty to bombing “satirical sculptures” of prominent Communist historical figures Vladimir Lenin and Mao Zedong at the Texas Public Radio headquarters in San Antonio, in 2022. No one was injured in that explosion but the blast apparently caused at least $250,000 in damage to the sculpture, named “Miss Mao Trying to Poise Herself at the Top of Lenin’s Head.”…
