ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Clouds will remain in place overhead tonight as southeasterly winds bring in higher humidity with temperatures in the 50s. Wind speeds will pick up overnight into the day tomorrow sustained around 10-20 mph. A Wind Advisory will be in effect until 2 PM as wind gusts could reach between 35-50 mph, especially in the higher elevations.
Those higher winds will be due to an approaching cold front which will move in during the early AM hours tomorrow bringing showers and storms. There will be the chance for a few strong to severe storms as the majority of the region is under a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather. The main threat will be damaging winds with these storms. However, an isolated, spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out alongside some hail. The best chance to see severe storms will be along and east of the Blue Ridge.
The line of storms will push east throughout the afternoon into the evening hours. Behind the front in the evening hours, a few isolated showers could develop and move over the region before rain completely clears out into Monday.
Temperatures will be in the 50s during the morning before warming into the upper 60s and low 70s under cloudy skies before we may see some sunshine closer towards sunset after the bulk of the rain and storms clear.
Cooler and drier air rushes in Monday which will see highs in the 50s before Tuesday morning lows drop into the 30s. Winds will remain a touch breezy on Monday from the northwest which will make it feel a bit chillier as sunshine returns during the second half of the day.
We warm back up into the upper 60s and low 70s by mid-week before the chance for a few showers with another cold front that will bring yet another brief cooldown by the end of the week…
