Police cancel Salt Lake City AMBER Alert after learning suspect had legal custody of child

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Salt Lake City police have canceled an AMBER Alert issued early Saturday morning for a two-year-old boy after learning that the person of interest had legal custody of the child.

Officers initially issued the alert around 2 a.m. on March 15, after family members reported their concerns for the child’s safety. SLCPD launched an extensive search for the child and his mother shortly after. KUTV will not release the identities of the child or mother, as the situation was quickly resolved.

Around 3 a.m., a caseworker contacted police dispatch and informed them that the mother listed in the alert had legal custody of the child. Officers immediately began working to verify this information and reached the mother after several attempts. She confirmed that the information relayed by the caseworker was accurate and that both she and her child were safe…
