Hackman Death: New Clues Emerge

Additional Coverage:

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department has released new information regarding the death of Betsy Arakawa Hackman, wife of the late actor Gene Hackman. Preliminary cell phone records indicate that Mrs.

Hackman died later than initially thought. While authorities previously believed her death occurred on or around February 11, records show activity on her phone the following day.

On February 12, Mrs. Hackman’s phone was used to make three calls to Cloudberry Health, a medical center in Santa Fe.

The records also show an incoming call from the same medical center that afternoon, which appeared as a missed call on Mrs. Hackman’s phone.

While the official date of Mrs. Hackman’s passing is now being reconsidered in light of this new information, the cause of death remains unchanged.

The New Mexico Department of Health has confirmed she died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. This disease, transmitted from rodents to humans, presents with flu-like symptoms that can escalate to respiratory and heart failure.

Gene Hackman’s death, attributed to hypertensive atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease with Alzheimer’s as a contributing factor, is believed to have occurred around February 18. Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated last week that while many questions surrounding the Hackmans’ deaths have been answered, investigators are still awaiting some data to finalize the case.

Toxicology results for Mrs. Hackman are also still pending.
