Storm system bringing wind, rain, and snow to the state

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – It will be a warm, perhaps record setting start to the work week in the Wichita area. While a record high today is unlikely (86° in 1994), afternoon temperatures in the lower 80s are over twenty degrees above average. However, an expected high of 83 degrees on Tuesday would tie the record high from 1921.

A powerful storm system will sweep across Kansas on Tuesday night. The big story with this weather maker will be the rain/snow chances and much colder temperatures. Strong and gusty north winds will create near blizzard conditions across central and western Kansas. While any snow accumulation will mainly be on grassy areas, low visibility and slick spots will make travel difficult Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

After seeing highs in the 30s on Wednesday, or 40 to 50 degrees colder than Tuesday, temperatures will quickly rebound into the 50s and 60s on Thursday underneath mainly sunny skies…
