Residents in Southern Oregon deal with flooding, landslides from heavy rain

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Oregon — Some communities in Southern Oregon are dealing with widespread flooding and landslides following days of heavy rain.

The severe weather turned deadly when a woman in Central Point died while trying to clear branches from a culvert under her driveway over the weekend, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said. Her waterproof overalls that she was wearing filled with water and flood waters swept her away.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Warning for the Umpqua River near Elkton in Douglas County. The Umpqua River is falling but is still above flood stage, according to the NWS Monday morning…
