Tornado warning issued in Northern California, residents urged to take cover

At around 3:14 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located in Merced County near La Grange, 17 miles north of Atwater, moving east at 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service . Around 4:42 p.m., officials said Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Delhi, or near Turlock, moving east at 20 mph.
