Crystal Clinic surgeon performs 1st meniscus repair using regenerative implant

Dr. Paul Fleissner, a board-certified orthopaedic and pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, performed the world’s first meniscus repair using an innovative regenerative implant for meniscal restoration, according to a news release. The procedure treated a college-age athlete who suffered from chronic pain after a previous meniscectomy.

RejuvaKnee, which was developed and manufactured by Regenity Biosciences and recently received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance, is a collagen-based meniscal plant, the release stated. It has been shown to support a more complete recovery by aiding in the regeneration of native meniscal tissue in pre-clinical studies.

“Meniscal repair using this groundbreaking regenerative implant represents a real game-changer and a potential new standard of care for meniscal restoration,” Fleissner, chairman of the board, said in the release. “It provides an outstanding and most durable solution for patients who have irreparable meniscus tears or have previously lost meniscus tissue.”…
