Trees were cut across acres of land near the Intracoastal Waterway in Carolina Forest to make way for a development approved nearly two decades ago.
In a Freedom of Information Act request filed with Horry County, The Sun News obtained development plans for more than 200 acres along River Oaks Drive near World Tour Golf Links in Carolina Forest. Submitted in 2007, The proposal called for 560 homes with a gross density of 2.8 dwelling units per acre.
In an email to The Sun News, the county’s FOIA manager said the construction plans for the tract are approved. Horry County’s Zoning map shows the 200-acre tract divided into several smaller parcels.
