Lucas Co. apartments sued for alleged disability discrimination

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The owners of a pair of Lucas County apartment complexes are facing a legal battle after the Fair Housing Center accused them of discrimination.

The lawsuit was against Sylvania Place Apartments, LLC” and “MRD Apartments, LLC. It claims disability-based discrimination, which violates the Fair Housing Act. It alleges that the defendants failed to design and construct Carr Apartments with doors that comply with FHA/FHAA-accessibility requirements.

The plaintiff is an individual with a disability who requested push-button door access at the Carr Apartments to get around on a wheelchair. The Fair Housing Center claims the defendants denied the requests for the contract work and later stopped responding to communications altogether…
